"I love this house everyday! I am the luckiest girl in the world!"

Canyon House

The owners of Canyon House wanted to capture all the beauty of their Gallatin Canyon surroundings without feeling confined by typical Montana style. What developed was a magnificent, 3,600-square-foot Craftsman home with timber frames, recycled wood, extensive masonry work and an unduplicated style.

The stone exterior—including 64 steps down to the trout pond and a subterranean sauna built into the hillside—is more than that beautiful artistry; it’s practical, as well, for the dry, Montana climate. The elegant masonry continues inside with an 18-foot fireplace; and the functional beauty is carried throughout the home with generous built-ins, even in the stone columns.

One-hundred-year-old redwood and Douglas fir reclaimed from a train trestle over the Great Salt Lake adds tremendous character to the home’s interior with flawless 54-inch wainscoting; the dramatic beams, trim and handcrafted doors made from bolt, spike and nail hole-riddled fir, add color, texture and even a sense of history to the home.

Other eye-catching details envisioned by the owners and brought to life by Blue Ribbon Builders include a spiral cherry staircase and windows that are stacked to reveal phenomenal views.
